SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO-AM) -- A Democratic legislator is taking a page from the Republicans' political playbook and making them choose between lowering or explaining why they won't.
Rep. Dan Ahlers (D-Dell Rapids), spoke with KELO Radio's Todd Epp following Ahler's appearance on The Greg Belfrage Show Friday about his proposal to reduce a telecommunications tax that assists people with disabilities.
Ahlers says the tax raises way more than is necessary for the teleommunication services and has become a handy but hidden pot of money for Republican governors and legislators to siphon to balance the budget without raising other taxes or using reserves.
