SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Record highs will register across the upper Midwest this weekend but in Sioux Falls today's high of 64 is 6 degrees short of the record set in 1981.

Still well above average, says National Weather Service Meteorologist Todd Heitkamp.  Sioux Falls normal high this time of year is 32.

Heitkamp says the above normal temperatures will continue into next week.  He says don't be surprised to hear claps of thunder Sunday night with a chance of rain.  He says it'll be easy to think spring has arrived.

Not so fast...Heitkamp says a powerful low is expected to roll across the nation's midsection at the end of next week.  He says Sioux Falls can expect rain or a rain snow mix Thursday into Friday.  He says how much snow to expect in the city is "up in the air."

But Heitkamp says the storm is setting up to give someone in the tri-state area a significant amount of snow.  He says it's too early to pinpoint the path of the low and what areas will be hardest hit.
