Furious Huether blasting Argus for "created" headline

SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO AM) Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether is "dumbfounded" by a headline in the Argus Leader newspaper, implying that he doesn't support the public schools.

Mayor Huether signed a proclamation at the request of Sioux Falls Catholic Schools on behalf of School Choice Week. Huether says there's nothing in the proclamation about moving money from public to private education.

"It's got everything to do with promoting education," explains the Mayor.

Huether says he has spent his public life promoting public education, including leading the last two opt-out campaigns in Sioux Falls to raise more money for the schools.

"The last two campaigns, the co-chairs of those campaigns were Mike and Cindy Huether and now I wake up this morning and there's a created headline in our local paper that says did Mayor Huether just take a stand against public schools?", a furious Huether groused on KELO Radio's Greg Belfrage Show.

But the term 'school choice' is politically charged in today's America. School Choice can be construed to mean that you support, for example, voucher programs allowing taxpayers to spend education money on the schools of their choice.
