SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - A neighbor to the Badlands Speedway today requested that the Minnehaha County Commission curb the venue's types of activities, hours and noise level.
Commission legal counsel Kersten Kappmeyer told Tom Wurtzima that even though the Speedway is for sale, potential events may be grand fathered in.
Kappmeyer says past County Commissions have been loath to consider a noise ordinance for rural parts of the county. Operating farm machinery has a lot to do with the Commission's reluctance.
Wurtzima appealed to the commission for help.
Living a mile south of Brandon Valley's city limits, Wurtzima says as more and more residential growth happens in the area, the need is essential to work together with the Speedway to ensure a good relationship.
Zoning and Planning and the State's Attorney's office will study the issue.
Chuck Brennan, of Payday Loans, has the speedway up for sale.
