CROOKS, SD (KELO-AM) It's a story of fire and ice as a hog farm barn fire, fanned by strong winds lit up the prairie skies near Crooks Sunday night.
Crews were on hand battling the flame over four hours, and Fire Chief Mike Harstad says with the elements, they needed all the help they could get.
Using over 100,000 gallons of water from 15 tankers, departments from Crooks, Renner, Dell Rapids, Baltic, Hartford and Minnehaha County Emergency Management knocked down the fire.
Harstad called it: "One for the record books"
The cause is still being investigated.
