SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Sioux Falls area from noon Friday to noon Saturday.
The Winter Storm Warning includes Worthington and Luverne, Minnesota; and Salem, Canistota, Bridgewater, Montrose, Parkston, Freeman, Menno, Tripp and Clayton, South Dakota.
Snow is likely from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning. The wind will blow and drift the snow. Five to eight inches of snow expected through this evening. The storm is also bringing extreme cold.
A Wind Chill Advisory will replace the Storm Warning from noon Saturday to noon Sunday. Wind chills will fall to near 30 below Saturday morning.
Wind chill values between Saturday night and Sunday morning will drop to between 25 below to 45 below zero.
Sunday morning's low, actual air temperature, is expected to be 25 below zero.
Counties south of Minnehaha are in a Winter Weather Advisory through tomorrow with five inches of snow expected in that area.
Meanwhile...The Bishop Dudley Hospitality House is busy housing the homeless from bitterly cold lows and staff is prepared to take in more this weekend when Sunday morning's low drops to record lows
Chad Campbell says they've recently added cots and can shelter more if necessary.
Campbell says unfortunately they won't have bunks or cots for the overflow but they will get a mat with a blanket on the floor to protect them from the extreme cold.
The Saint Francis House and the Union Gospel Mission also offer shelter from the cold.
The forecast call for moderate weather early next week with highs near 30 Tuesday and Wednesday.
