Winter storm packs wallop

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - This weekend's storm is providing a one-two punch with snow and record lows.

Sioux Falls forecaster Jim Chapman says it starts with a nuisance snow Thursday.

Chapman says the system forecasters will really keep an eye on will move into the area Friday afternoon and continue into Saturday with heavy snowfall at times. Winds will whip out of the north at between 15 and 30 miles an hour reducing visibilities and causing drifting.

The storm's total snow could be five to eight inches, with heavier amounts north and west of Sioux Falls. Chapman says that's followed by life-threatening cold.

He says overnight lows from Saturday into Sunday morning will drop to between 20 to 30 degrees below zeros
