SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Conditions have favored snow-making at Great Bear Recreation Park and it will open for the season today at three.
Manager Dan Grider says a little less than half of the hill will be open today with the tubing hill opening over the weekend.
Grider said cold temperatures have been almost perfect for making snow, which the rec area has been doing since Monday. He's also encouraged by the snow falling this weekend that will add to the snow's base.
Grider advises skiers to dress for the bitterly cold temperatures this weekend and keep an eye on your friends, watching for potential frostbite. He says the Bear will be open on Sunday when the high is forecast to be at zero.
The Great Bear chairlift will be open for limited runs for skiing and snowboarding.
