SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Online shopping means goods delivered to your home and sometimes those purchases are left at your front door.
Sioux Falls Police Sergeant Sean Kooistra advises being home when packages are delivered.
Kooistra says residents find that packages have been delivered to their homes and left at the front door when no one answered the door. But victims report that they weren't able to find them. He says that leads investigators to believe that someone stole those packages.
Kooistra says if you can't be home at delivery ask a neighbor to keep an eye out for the package.
Kooistra also advises online shoppers to monitor their credit card statements and keep a close eye on bank statements too. He says it's part of an effort to try and minimize any type of identity theft. He says to be aware of what you're spending your money on, be aware of your bank statements.
Kooistra says if you find any fraudulent or suspicious activity on your card, call the financial institution to make them aware so that they can cancel your card and then notify the police.
