SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) The City of Sioux Falls has started an 'Adopt-a-Driveway' program to help the elderly and disabled keep their driveways clear this snow season.
"A volunteer or a volunteer group such as a church group or a boy scout group that would be interested in adopting a driveway in their area," Betsy Schuster with the Hotline Center tells KELO Radio News.
If your group wants to volunteer just call 2-1-1.
The city has been using the 'Scoop It' program with prison inmates helping clear driveways, but that program has reached capacity. Schuster says the city is hoping that community spirit will help take up the slack. She says they will always match up the adopted driveway with a volunteer in the same area of town, so it will be easier to do the job when the snow hits.
