SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Lincoln High will put 260 students, 150 parents, 27 chaperones and drivers into seven buses tomorrow morning for a thirty hour road trip to Los Angeles for the Hollywood Christmas Parade.
Director Dan Carlson says the Lincoln marching band is one of sixteen high school band invited to perform.
Carlson says the band will perform Sunday evening marching down Hollywood Boulevard. He says organizers roll out 800 feet of red carpet for bands. He says the parade route is about 2.5 miles long and is U-shaped. About a million spectators are expected to line the route.
The LHS Band has the honor of being the last band in the parade and will lead in Santa Claus. They will perform "Here Comes Santa Claus" which was written for and inspired by this parade in 1946.
The parade will not be broadcast live but will be tape delayed on the C-W, December 16th and on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries December 21.
Carlson says finances for the trip are fundraised and it costs about $1,200 per student for transportation, rooms in Los Angeles and food.
