SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Small Business Saturday is sandwiched between Black Friday and Cyber Monday and plays an important role for retailers in downtown Sioux Falls.

Brienne Maner, with Downtown Sioux Falls, says the promotion highlights the impact your dollars make when they are kept inside the community.

Maner says vacancies are at an all time low in downtown Sioux Falls.  She says small businesses are thriving there and she credits that success with retailers working together and smarter.  They are figuring out what the public wants which begins with something unique.

She says Small Business Saturday was created by American Express and was first observed in November 2010.  She says it's become an important observance for downtown Sioux Falls.

Over the past 3 to 4 years crowds have grown and it's evident that shoppers are choosing to support the small businesses.

Small Business Saturday follows the 25th Annual Parade of Lights the Friday after Thanksgiving.
