SIOUX FALLS, S.D (KELO AM) - South Dakota Republicans have increased their already overwhelming majority in the State Legislature in Pierre.
In Tuesday's election, they picked up two additional seats in the State Senate for a 29-6 split...and picked up two in the State House for a 60-10 split.
It apparently results in the fewest Democrats in Pierre since 1954.
Here are the winners in legislatives races in and around the Sioux Falls metro area.
State Senate:
District 6 – Ernie Otten, District 9 – Deb Peters, District 10 – Jenna Haggar, District 11 – Jim Stalzer, District 12 – Blake Curd, District 13 – Jack Kolbeck, District 14 – Deb Soholt, District 16 – Jim Bolin, District 17 – Arthur Rusch, District 25 – Kris Langer
State House:
District 6 – Isaac Laterell and Herman Otten, District 9 – Michael Clark and Wayne Steinhauer, District 10 – Steve Haugaard and Don Haggar, District 11 – Chris Karr and Mark Willadsen, District 12 – Greg Jamison and Arch Beal, District 13 – Mark Mickelson and Sue Lucas-Peterson, District 14 – Larry Zikmund and Tom Holmes, District 15 – Jamie Smith and Karen Soli (both Democrats), District 16 – David Anderson and Kevin Jensen, District 17 – Nancy Rasmussen and Democrat Ray Ring, District 25 – Tim Pischke and a possible recount between Democrat Dan Ahlers and Republican Roger Hunt, Ahlers leads Hunt by 33 votes.
