SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Control of the Senate is hinging on a number of tight races today.
Senator John Thune (R-SD) says it would take a switch of at least four seats with a Hillary Clinton victory to give Democrats control.
Thune says some elections will come down to which candidate catches that little tailwind at the finish. He says there are least seven Senate races where the margin of error is tight in terms of polling.
Thune says one thing that's certain is it will be a narrow majority for either party. He says that's going to require a level of cooperation in order to get anything done. He hopes "they can find the way forward to do that," adding "I'm going to be focused on getting results."
Thune says lawmakers can't keep putting all the hard work and heavy lifting off until the next election.
He says either Trump or Clinton will be the next president. Whichever one that is, he hopes "both sides will be able to, where they can, find some common ground."
Thune donated two million dollars from his campaign funds to the National Republican Senatorial Committee to help candidates in close races.
Thune faces Democrat Jay Williams, a political newcomer from Yankton, in today's election.
