SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) A Third-grade class at Harvey Dunn Elementary School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota pedals in place to burn off youthful energy.

Teacher Nicole Gardner-Fink used an education grant to install pedals under all the desks in her classroom.

She says some of the kids pedal all the time, others just now and then.

“I think they help the students to focus, and the constant movement is beneficial to their physical well-being as well.” says Gardner-Fink.

The pedals don't make any noise, so they are not distracting in class.

Gardner-Fink used the Innovation in Education Grant for $1,280 to install 26 sets of floor pedals. But the pedals are movable, so as students move about the classroom they can take their pedals with them.

Pedal here, pedal there, pedals everywhere, maybe, because some faculty members have been asking if they can get pedals under their desks to help them stay focused.
