SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - This presidential campaign may go down as one of the most bizarre ordeals in politics and it has spread itself over incumbents and challengers alike.
South Dakota Senator John Thune says ultimately the voters will make the choice.
Thune says in terms of the nominees and the tone of the campaign, it's unlike "anything I've seen." But he encourages South Dakotans to participate in the process and get out and vote.
At one point, Thune called for Trump to step down after the candidate made provocative comments about women.
He says he was getting shot at from both directions over that call. He says that may mean that he's somewhere in the right spot but adds "I don't know." Thune felt it was going to be very difficult for Trump to recover after "some of those events came to light."
Thune says choices are limited.
He says for himself, it becomes a choice of which of the two candidates, in terms of their policies and the direction they want to lead the country, would be better for South Dakota.
Thune's comments came before the FBI announced last Friday it will reopen it's investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails.
