SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The Trump campaign continues playing catch-up to Hillary Clinton and attention is turning to control of the Senate.
South Dakota Senator Mike Rounds admits Trump has an uphill battle.
Rounds says he thinks Trump can be victorious but he has to discipline himself and he has to talk about the critical things that Americans really care about.
Rounds says Trump's key to winning is to focus on important issues.
He says the Republican candidate has to talk about safety, security and a tax process that Rounds says is absolutely broken.
South Dakota's junior senator says control of the Senate rests in a handful of races.
Rounds says if Republicans lose four seats it would be a 50-50 tie. If Hillary Clinton wins the presidency that means the vice-president would determine every tie vote. That would put the GOP in the minority and they wouldn't be able to bring legislation they deem important out of committee.
Rounds says Democrats will have to defend 25 Senate seats in 2018.
