SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The Minnehaha County Commission was briefed today on plan to review rural ambulance services.

Commission Chair Cindy Heiberger says $40,000 is budgeted for a review that was last done 15 years ago.

Heiberger says it's important for the commission to determine if they have an appropriate system and that they are taking care of the citizens they way they should be.  She questions whether the commission is getting that done by just throwing money at the ambulance service year after year.

The low bid came in from Fitch and Associates and the commission will vote on the bid in a couple of weeks.

The commission has six areas of concern to be reviewed:  medical review, level of service, ordinance maintenance, geographic distribution, government subsidies and volunteer inputs.

Heiberger says the county is not interested in going to a single system countywide.
