SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The South Dakota Secretary of State's office is fielding questions about writing in a candidate of your choice in the presidential election.
Shantel Krebs says a write-in is considered the same as leaving a line blank.
Krebs says South Dakota law doesn't allow for write in candidates. However, Krebs says, if you do write in a candidate it doesn't mean your ballot is rejected or dismissed.
Krebs says if you don't like any of the candidate for a particular office, you're better off leaving the line blank.
She says writing in a candidate will not cause the scanner to kick out your ballot or make it fail to accurately record your other marks.
Write-in names are allowed, with some restrictions, in Nebraska, Iowa and Minnesota.
