SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The Multi-Cultural Center in Sioux Falls celebrates Native American Day with a Wacipi powwow tonight.
Christy Nicolaisen says the event honors children.
Nicolaisen says Wacipi is a dance that's in a circle form. She says the dancers are all local. There are two drum groups including Iron Wing and the Roosevelt High School Drum corp.
The Wacipi starts with a community dinner at six and the grand entry is at seven.
Nicolaisen says the grand entry includes flags and walking the circle. She says the dancers and dignitaries will enter the circle, it's a traditional Native American dance.
She says there will be a short ceremony honoring children.
The Multi-Cultural Center is at 515 North Main Avenue. The Wacipi is sponsored by the Center, Catholic Diocesse of Sioux Falls and the Sioux Council of Boy Scout.
