Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) — The Denny Sanford PREMIER Center welcomed more than 12,000 Carrie Underwood fans to the music icon’s sold out show tonight, setting a new attendance record for an event at the PREMIER Center. The previous record was last October’s Elton John concert with more than 11,600 in attendance.

The PREMIER Center recently announced attendance of 633,591 people during its second full year of operation, bringing the 24-month total of visitors to more than 1.26 million since September 2014. The previous 12 month’s total was 633,126.

Capacity is based on how the venue is configured for each specific event, which is determined by each  tour. For tonight’s Underwood concert, the entire floor was open for general admission standing room with no seats. Also, the show was “in the round” with the stage placed in the middle of the floor, rather than at the east end, which allowed most of the permanent seats in the lower bowl to be available.
