SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) The 350 kids at Terry Redlin Elementary School in Sioux Falls will get to eat breakfast right at their desks in the classroom in a new pilot project to encourage a better foundation for learning.
"We are already offering a breakfast program at the schools, but we knew that less than half the kids were taking advantage of that," said the School Board's Doug Morrison at a special ceremony at the school on Thursday.
The Midwest Dairy Council presented a $5,000 check to get the pilot program going. Parker area dairy farmer, Allen Merrill presented the check on behalf of the council.
"If we can start kids off with a good, balanced, nutritious meal, we understand that they have a chance to have a better opportunity to learn what the teachers are teaching them," said Merrill.
The money from the Dairy Council will enable the School District to purchase equpment to implement the Breakfast in the Classroom program at Terry Redlin.
