SIOUX FALL,S .D. (KELO AM) - The Sioux Falls Regional Landfill is still taking waste tires for free from anyone in the five county area.
Superintendent Dustin Hansen says waste tires can still provide breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
Hansen says the effort also includes keeping the community clean. Get the tires out, he says, and get them recycled.
Hansen says the tires are taken to process facilities in Minnesota to be recycled for new AstroTurf or new energy.
All loads must be tarped or in an enclosed vehicle. A $25 fee will be charged for loads arriving that are not properly tarped or secured.
Commercial businesses will not be accepted for free.
The City has committed to fund a local match o 20% in the of up to $25,000, provided the Department of Environment and Natural Resources grants up to $100,000 for the cost of the City's waste tire collection and disposal.
