SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Friday is national P-O-W/M-I-A Day and a ceremony will be held  at Veteran's Memorial Park in Sioux Falls.

President of the local chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Terry "Hawk" Mayer says the event includes a 21-gun salute, the Patriot Guard Motorcyle Riders and a reading of names.

Mayer say there are seven missing South Dakotans from the Vietnam War.  He says 192 South Dakotans made the ultimate sacrifice when they died.

Each year on the third Friday of September, the country honors our military members who have been or still are Prisoners of War or Missing in Action.  Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation holds the POW/MIA ceremony at Veterans Park on West Bailey Street.

While there are POWs and MIAs from World War II and Korea, Mayer says the ceremony principally recognizes those serving in Vietnam.

The ceremony starts tomorrow night at 6:30, it's free and open to the public.
