SF advisory election wins first round

SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) An advisory election on the $22 million Sioux Falls city administration building has jumped its first hurdle. City Council, by a 5-2 vote, has approved first reading of the ordinance calling for the election.

This may be little more than an academic exercise if Mayor Mike Huether in October moves forward, as planned, with the sale of the bonds to build the building as the advisory election would be held next June.

Some freshman City Councilors pushed for the advisory election after a petition drive for a public vote was rejected on an embarrassing technicality - the signatures were on the wrong form.
