SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) South Dakota snowbirds have a new way to get to the Valley of the Sun.

American Airlines has announced it will offer non-stop daily service between Phoenix and Sioux Falls Regional Airport. The service is seasonal only, from December 15 to June 7.

Allegiant Airlines currently flies from Sioux Fall to Phoenix non-stop, but not on a daily basis. This additional service gives the growing Sioux Falls area more options and more flight connections.

First word of the new daily flight service to Phoenix came from Sioux Falls Business Journal Editor Jodi Schwan on KELO Radio's It's Your Business show. She said the big announcement had just come across her desk.

"A clear sign that the seasons are changing on us", Schwan told KELO Radio's Bill Zortman on Tuesday morning, "This is something that the Sioux Falls Regional Airport has been working toward for a couple of years. Phoenix is a very popular destination for people, not surprising probably, traveling out of Sioux Falls. especially in the winter."

Ticket purchase for the American Airlines daily flight to Sky Harbor in Phoenix was available as of Monday. The service will be operated by Americans regional partner, Mesa Airlines on a 76-seat CRJ900 aircraft.
