SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) - September is "National Preparedness Month", and Emergency Managers at all levels say "later is too late" when planning for another disaster or emergency. The Federal Emergency Management Administration's campaign urges you to be informed, develop a disaster kit, and make a plan.
All month, KELO Radio News will speak with area emergency oficials, as each week has a different readiness theme.
Lynn DeYoung, Minnehaha County Emergency Manager, says it's a matter of personal responsibility. "Be ready to be on your own for up to 36 hours, as first responders might be overwhelmed". He says the more people are prepared, the quicker the recovery can begin.
