Fire damages Garfield Ave. mall

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Sioux Falls Fire Rescue says two stores in a strip mall on South Garfield Avenue were damaged by fire around eleven last night.

Nearby residents saw smoke coming from the strip mall, just north of West 12th Street, and called 911.

No one was in the mall when firefighters arrived. Other stores sustained smoke damage.

The fire was controlled in a half-hour and there were no civilian or firefighter injuries. The fire is currently under investigation. 

Stores in the mall include Golden Harvest Chinese, Curves and Family Market.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with eight fire apparatus, two command units, three support units, and 35 firefighters.

South Dakota Air National Guard Fire Department Engine 5, Sioux Falls Police, Paramedics Plus, MidAmerican Energy, Excel and Sioux Falls Public Works also responded to assist.

Meanwhile...Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire at 317 N Prairie around 3 this morning.

Neighbors saw smoke and flames coming from a detached garage and notified 911.   The structure was not occupied at the time of the call.  The fire was contained to the garage.
