SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- The Sioux Falls Public Schools Education Foundation hires its first, full-time executive director.
Allison Struck began work July 16th.
Struck is a graduate of public schools and has had close ties to education throughout her life. She is a native of Yankton and a 2010 honors graduate of the University of South Dakota.
Her hiring is the achievement of a long-planned milestone. The Education Foundation is traditionally governed by a Board of volunteers. In recent years, the Board members have been receiving assistance from part-time employees, while working toward the goal of hiring a full-time executive director.
Eighteen projects are being funded with the Innovation in Education Grants from the Education Foundation in Sioux Falls, for the 2017-2018 school year.
The Foundation has awarded $358,111 in 283 grants, for creative teaching projects, since 2008.
$2,551 dollars is helping the students in the "BioLit" (Biology & Literature) program at New Technology High School grow food that is out of this world!
The school project "Mission: Green Thumbs" involves designing plans to grow food on Mars.
