SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) The Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce has remained officially neutral in the intense argument over a new $22 million city administration building.
But Chamber Public Relations Director Mark Lee says it's important that the public has objective information for the debate.
He told the Greg Belfrage Show Wednesday morning that it's not accurate to say that the project was rushed.
"The discussion for new space for city employees and accommodating those employees has been on the table for some time," Lee said, "This particular process has a two year history behind it."
Lee also disagrees with those who thought Mayor Mike Huether's veto was way out of line. Huether blocked City Council from blocking the sale of bonds to building the new complex.
"I spend a lot of time in Pierre," said Lee, "and it is not uncommon for the Governor to veto a bill the legislature has passed. It's not a slap in the face, its not a point of disrespect to the process."
The new administrative building would be across the street from the main city library in downtown Sioux Falls.
The 'Stop the Funding' campaign is trying to raise enough petition signatures to put the fate of the building before the voters.
