SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Next month, the City of Sioux Falls will decide whether to reauthorize assessments on downtown businesses for the Business Improvement District Program.
But what is BID and what does it do?
According to the president of Downtown Sioux Falls, Inc., the program does a number of things.
"The BID exists primarily to enhance and promote downtown above and beyond the normal levels of service," says Joe Batcheller, the DTSF president.
He notes that the funds provide the following items or services in the downtown core:
- Clean & Green (sidewalk sweeping & flowers)
- Placemaking (banners)
- Economic Development (pedestrian counters & economic database)
- Events (Parade of Lights & Moonlight Movies)
- Marketing
- Holiday Decorations
The City is looking to assess $172,819.92 if the program is reauthorized.
KELO-AM's parent company, Midwest Communications Radio, Inc., is also assessed for the program.
The City Council considers the program at 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 11 at the Carnegie Townhall.
