SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Fire and rescue crews extinguished a fire yesterday morning at an apartment complex.
The fire was at 708 N. Cleveland Ave.
A pet was rescued. No one was hurt.

Sioux Falls, South Dakota: At 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 708 N. Cleveland Ave. Initial reports were that the building was on fire and that people were evacuating the apartment complex.
The first arriving crew reported smoke and flames coming from the backside of the structure. Crews conducted a primary and secondary search of the apartment involved and confirmed that all residents had evacuated safely. During the secondary search of the second floor apartment, fire crews were able to rescue a family pet that was unharmed. SFFR personnel extinguished the fire in approximately 30 minutes. Fire crews immediately established ventilation to remove the remaining smoke, and simultaneously conducted overhaul of the portions of the structure with fire damage. SFFR crews conducted a thorough assessment for hot spots for fire extension into the attic space of the structure.
There were no injuries or firefighter injuries. The American Red Cross was notified and offered assistance to the residents who are misplaced due to significant fire damage to their apartment.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with 36 personnel, 8 fire trucks and 6 support vehicles.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The apartment did not have a sprinkler system. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue would like to remind residents to have working smoke detectors and a practiced escape plan in the event of a fire emergency.
