SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - As Sioux Falls grows to the west South Dakota planners realize a need to expand Highway 42 from two lanes to four.

D-O-T Engineer Steve Gramm says Wednesday's open house features various layouts of the major intersections in a fifteen mile corridor between the Tea-Ellis Road and McCook County.

Gramm says the are two options for the Wall Lake intersection, five options for cherry Lake Drive intersection and three for 467 Avenue intersection.  Attendees will have an opportunity to let DOT which plans they favor.

Gramm says at an earlier open house it was standing room only so tonight's gathering is 5:30 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center.

Meanwhile...Gramm says close to a hundred people attended Tuesday night's open house over the Brandon/I-90 interchange plans.

He says a common complaint was close calls, or near accidents that don't appear on reports.

Gramm says there was a lot of concern over increasing traffic at the interchange.  He says there is congestion on Rice Street and Highway 42 and that's causing more motorists to use the I-90 interchange.

Gramm says it was the first public open house for a project that doesn't have design plans yet.
