SIOUS FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) The City of Sioux Falls has received the 'Voice of the People Award for Excellence in Economy' from the National Research Center.
It's the only national award given to local government based on what the citizens actually think, through results from the National Citizen Survey.
City Council Chair Rex Rolfing tells KELO Radio that it's a big deal.
"We rated highest in the country for economic development, for the economy, and, you know, that's a huge thing," says Rolfing. He says the award will be part of the tool box the city uses to attract new businesses to Sioux Falls.
“Our hard work has paid off and our citizens certainly appreciate it,” says Mayor Mike Huether. “City government is getting things done with infrastructure, public safety, quality of life and economic development, and we are doing it in a fiscally responsible way.”
The National Citizen Survey asks residents for their opinions and satisfaction levels in areas such as workforce development, hotel industries, retail and commercial activity and downtown improvement.
