SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - DWI and drug arrests are down on the opening day of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally but the number of citations and warnings issued are dopwn from the same period last year.
The best number of all is zero fatalities, whereas there were six a year ago.
Crowds for this year's Sturgis Motorcycle Rally aren't expect to be as big as last year's 75th anniversary but safety continues to be a priority for law enforcement.
Tony Mangan with the Department of Public Safety says patience is a virtue. He says even if attendance numbers are down, there will still be hundreds-of-thousand of Rally goers. He says hopefully the large crowds motivate people to have to be careful and be safe drivers.
The Rally runs through Sunday.
