Sippers story from downtown Sioux Falls crash

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- The driver that hit the Sip-n-Cycle in downtown Sioux Falls may have been on drugs.

"Looks like he may have been using some marijuana or meth before that accident..." says Police Spokesman Sam Clemens. So drugs may explain it, but Clemens says tests revealed that the man was not drunk.

Justin Rabago, 25, faces several charges. Eight people were hurt, including one person seriously in Saturday night's crash.

One of the 12 riders, Mary Wieczorek, is sharing her experience on Facebook.

"I’m shaken up but luckily I saw what was about to happen and held onto the bike so I didn’t get thrown off."

She doesn't blame Sip-n-Cycle.

"The pilot of our bike did everything he could to try and swerve out of the way. He wasn’t at fault. I feel bad he had to experience this horrific event as well." Wieczorek says they were all offered safety helmets, but declined because nobody would think this would ever happen.
