SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Two of the eight City Councilors KELO.com News talked to after Mayor Paul TenHaken's budget address today were positive.

City Councilor Pat Starr particularly liked one of the mayor's ideas on some custodian positions.

"What was really interesting was taking, in this type of job economy to watch parttime employees being combined and made into fulltime positions so that we have a chance long-term to retain these employees," Starr said.

TenHaken staff says turnover is currently over 100 percent for the positions as currently configured.

Councilor Marshall Selberg liked TenHaken's to-the-point approach. He also appreciated that the Mayor wants to set aside $100,000 for the Council to consider for their own projects or enhancements.

"It's kind of nice that he put that out there," Selberg said. "He's done a good job of reaching out to the Council to this point."

Though TenHaken was succinct today in his remarks--about 20 minutes--Starr cautions that today will be the last brief day, as in-depth hearings and consideration of the City budget now begins.
