Central Sioux Falls made up a blue belt for Clinton in 2016 election

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Central Sioux Falls is like a blue belt around a red jumpsuit.

That's according to some heavy-duty data analysis performed by the New York Times.

Overall in Sioux Falls proper, Democrat Hillary Clinton defeated Republican Donald Trump by eight percentage points. But there was lots of variation by Zip Code in the city.

In the 2016 Presidential election, the Sioux Falls Zip Codes in the middle of the city voted for Hillary Clinton. 

  • 57101 +21 percent for Clinton over Trump.
  • 57103 +8 percent for Clinton over Trump.
  • 57104 +8 percent for Clinton over Trump.
  • 57109 +21 percent for Clinton over Trump.

On the north and south sides of Sioux Falls, it was a different story.

  • 57106 +7 for Trump over Clinton.
  • 57108 +8 for Trump over Clinton.
  • 57108 +32 for Trump over Clinton.

If most of South Dakota was a sea of red for Trump in 2016, then Sioux Falls was geographically a blue dot.

Statewide, Clinton did well on Indian reservations, Indian country, and Vermillion. Pine Ridge gave Clinton +88 percent over Trump; Vermillion, +44 percent over Trump.

Trump did well most everyone in the state, but some places were overwhelmingly so. Wall voted +65 percent for Trump over Clinton; Kadoka, +55 percent over Clinton for Trump.
