SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - (KELO.com) The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has announced a Hazardous Weather Outlook for warming temperatures and rising humidity that will result in a heat index near 100 degrees throughout the Missouri River Corridor starting today, Thursday, through Wednesday, July 4th.
A heat advisory is in effect for Friday, June 29, from 1 pm to 8 pm. With afternoon temperatures reaching into the 90's, combining with high humidity levels, will result in a peak heat index reading of 100 to 105 degrees. The combination of heat and humidity may cause heat stress during outdoor exertion or extended exposure.
Take extra precautions where possible, reschedule strenuous activities for the morning or the evening, wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing where possible and drink plenty of liquids.
Symptoms of heat stroke results from prolonged exposure to high temperatures, usually combined with dehydration, which leads to the failure of the bodies temperature control system. Other common symptoms include nausea, confusion and loss of consciousness. Heat stroke is an emergency situation, call 9-1-1.
