SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken has proposed a five year $748.4 million capital spending plan.

The capital program proposal for 2019–2023 focuses on the essential needs of the City and includes $399.5 million in fee‑supported projects and $348.9 million in tax‑supported projects..

"Streets, water, and water reclamation are three of our top priorities for capital spending in Sioux Falls," says TenHaken, "Economic development and population growth cannot happen in our city without this investment.  It's that critical."

Mayor TenHaken is new to all this and he's been listening to citizens on spending priorities.  Some say spend less, others say don't borrow, still others say do borrow (one guy said raise taxes if you have to).

Public safety investments include the construction of Fire Station 12 in 2020 to serve southeast Sioux Falls. The City will also plan for debt service on the new public safety training center. Parks and Recreation will also continue its rehabilitation and expansion of the bike trail system as well as cyclical park replacements of equipment and facilities.

The full capital program is available at www.siouxfalls.org/capital. The Mayor will present the entire 2019 recommended budget on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at 2:30 p.m. at the Sioux Falls Orpheum Theater.
