SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- The Great Plain's Zoo is celebrating the grand opening of its newest exhibit, Fortress of the Bears, on Saturday, June 23.
Four brown bear cubs will be featured as part of the $2.7 million renovation project.
The project renovated and expanded one of the Zoo’s oldest and most popular exhibits to provide enhanced viewing and educational opportunities for the Zoo’s more 300,000 annual visitors.
The grand opening celebration will include Zookeeper Chats, photo opportunities with Zoo mascots, free face painting until 1 p.m., and a Bear-themed Bookworms Reading Program at 1 p.m. The first 500 children also will receive a free Fortress of the Bears drawstring backpack, and guests can build their own Bear-themed treat mix, while supplies last.
Once the exhibit is open, visitors will be able to enjoy regularly scheduled activities like Zookeeper Chats and training demonstrations.
The Great Plains Zoo & Delbridge Museum of Natural History is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m., with the last admission at 6 p.m. Visit the Zoo online at www.greatzoo.org or call 605-367-7003 for more information about the Zoo and Museum.
