SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Depending upon where you went to view the Big Sioux River in Sioux Falls today, you were either greeted with a raging torrent of water or a more placid river.

Mid-afternoon, walkers, joggers, families, tourists, and others inundated Falls Park like a Black Friday sale. Parking spaces were sparse; as soon as one car left, another pulled in.

The Big Sioux roiled and boiled over the quartzite rocks. Most visitors stayed on the paths or the viewing areas. A few, mostly teens and young adults, ventured out onto the rocks within feet of the river.

North of the park, the City's diversion channel was discharging water down the tailrace.

But just a mile or so south of Falls Park at Cherry Rock Park, the Big Sioux was brimful to a bit over its banks, peacefully making its way to the falls.
