SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- City Councilor Greg Neitzert is unhappy with the tenor of the discussion on a proposal to move City Council public input from the beginning to the end of the meeting.
He offered his thoughts on his Facebook page.
"Regarding the proposal to move general public input to the end of our meetings - the commentary I'm seeing from a few on Facebook, in the media, and other venues is completely inappropriate, misleading, ad hominem, hyperbolic and hysterical," Neitzert wrote. "The question is when should people be able to talk to the Council about something NOT on the agenda during a meeting, beginning or end. That's it."
Neitzert added that denigrating people who are there to transact business, city employees, and sponsors of the ordinance isn't effective.
"It certainly won't sway me," he wrote.
Neitzert said he had some "thoughtful discussion and arguments."
However, he is not a fan of social media, according to his comments.
"Look at some of the Facebook and blog commentary and judge for yourself whether social media is a place for intelligent discussion or a place for people to attack the character and humanity of those they disagree with," Neitzert wrote.
Councilors have a first reading on the ordinance that would make the change tonight.
