SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Minnehaha County sent a letter to the shuttered Badlands Motor Speedway near Brandon that the track cannot offer racing until it has a new conditional use permit.
The former Huset's Speedway had operated for decades under a special use permit. However, county ordinances say a special use permit lapses if the business or entity does not engage in the special use activity for a year.
Owner Chuck Brennan closed the track and put it up for sale last year.
In a statement on Badlandsmotorspeedway.com said the decision was unfair and that race fans should contact county commissioners before today's meeting at 9 a.m.
"This notice seems unjust, unwarranted, and an attempt to shut down racing for good in Brandon South Dakota. Racing, concerts and events have taken place at Huset's / Badlands for over 60 years. This is the first notice we have received from the county or any legal authority for that matter and this could affect the lives of far too many people to even mention."
