WATCH: "Monster" house is demolished

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- The so-called "monster house" in the McKennan Park neighborhood is being torn down.

A large tracked excavator finished demolishing the house on Second Ave. at about 12:15 p.m., leaving a pile of rubble to be removed.

The house was located at 1323 S. 2nd Avenue, just to the west of McKennan Park.

A number of neighbors and others gathered in Mckennan Park to witness the home come down.

A father and his two young sons took in the scene.

"It's a waste, more or less," the father said. "Never should have been built in the neighborhood with the add ons."

"I don't know why they (the owners) didn't listen," the dad's older pre-teen son said. "They wouldn't have had to break down the house."

"It's actually very sad," the little brother, maybe six said. "Probably had to spend a lot of their money."

The nearly one million dollar home was court-ordered to come down because it didn't meet McKennan's Park's historic standards.

The various court battles lasted nearly three years.
