SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- U.S. Rep. Kristi Noems says she has been running as an outsider in the Republican race for Governor against Attorney General Marty Jackley.
Speaking with reporters following her "All in Tour" stop at the Downtown Holiday Inn, she said that she was running to do things differently and bring greater transparency to state government.
So, has the four-term Congresswoman been running as an outsider?
"Yes, absolutely," Noem said. "Primaries are hard. We understand that. And a lot of the ways that we've been doing things in South Dakota I'm intending to change."
At her rally this afternoon, Noem recounted some of her achievements in Congress, including revamping the tax code and defunding Planned Parenthood. Noem says South Dakotan needs a strong governor to help President Donald Trump and his agenda.
She also promised to shrink state government, have no new taxes, and get the government out of people's lives.
"I will be a governor who knows how to fight the federal government," Noem told the roomfull of supporters.
Recent polling show the races with Jackley in a tie.
"This could be a tight race, a very tight race," she said. She joked that in the next 24 hours, people "should say nice things about me" and encourages others to turn out and vote for her.
"You (supporters) have credibility that TV ads don't have," Noem said.
Former Lt. Gov. Steve Kirby of Sioux Falls introduced Noem to the audience.
Noem has been traveling the state meeting with supporters during her tour the past two day.
Down the street from the Holiday Inn on Phillips Avenue, Jackley supporters had a rally on the street corner with their candidate.
