SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- At the Birdcage Tuesday of last week, the Canaries game was delayed about 25 minutes waiting for an ambulance to arrive at the baseball stadium.

Sioux City Explorers Second Baseman Nelson Ward had hit the wall down the right field line going for a fly. He hurt his knee. He was not moved off the field for fear of making the injury worse.

So after a 25-minute wait with Ward flat on his back, the ambulance finally arrived and took him to the hospital and the ball game resumed.

KELO.com News reached out to Paramedics Plus for comment, but the ambulance provider had not responded before this story was posted.

Paramedics Plus has been criticized in the past in Sioux Falls for its response times. But City Health Director Jill Franken has said the ambulances exceed performance standards.

Just for the record, the Explorers went on to beat the Canaries 8-2.
