SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Dozens of unlocked vehicles have been hit by thieves in Hartford, in what is related to a state wide rampage this spring in South Dakota.
Minnehaha County Sheriff's Captain Jason Gearman says thieves have been taking advantage of unlocked cars over a wide area.
"Eight different counties, ten different jurisdictions throughout the state of South Dakota. Brookings is one, Minnehaha, the City of Sioux Falls..."
Gearman says the thieves are stealing what they can, including guns, and even sometimes stealing the vehicles themselves to use in other crimes.
He says some suspects have been arrested for the Hartford rampage.
"We get sick of preaching this, but please lock your cars, and please don't leave your guns in your vehicles."
