CANTON, S.D. (KELO.com) -- A rural Worthing woman died from a hit and run accident yesterday evening.
The victim, 34 year old Tessa Jacobs of rural Worthing, was walking on 473rd Ave between 278th and 277th St. when she was struck by a southbound vehicle. When Jacobs failed to return home from her walk, she was reported missing. Authorities using tracking dogs searched throughout the night and the victim was discovered in a road ditch around dawn this morning.
Authorities believe she was killed sometime after 7:45 p.m. yesterday.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating the vehicle involved in the fatal crash.
The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office belies that based on evidence at the scene, the suspect vehicle is a 1999 – 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup with damage to the right front and the passenger side rear view mirror is missing. (See photo above.)
In an update, Johnson said the mirror could come from other, related vehicles too.
"Further investigation into the mirror found at the scene indicates this type of mirror could also be found on SUVs such as Tahoes, Suburbans and Yukons," Johnson said.
