SIOUX FALL, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Paul TenHaken on Tuesday became the 32nd Mayor of Sioux Falls, South Dakota's largest city.

"Today marks the next generation of Sioux Falls, a new generation hungry for opportunity and prosperity, one that embraces technology, embraces diversity, embraces change."

In his brief acceptance speech, TenHaken said he has no crystal ball or magic wand for the challenges ahead, but vowed to work "dutifully and diligently."

He quoted Andrew Carnegie, the famous philanthropist who built Carnegie Town Hall, where the installation ceremony was held.

"Carnegie said, quote, no man will make a great leader who wants to it all himself, or to get all the credit for doing it."

TenHaken said he wants the prayers, support and friendship of all the citizens of Sioux Falls and he wants them to hold him accountable in the years ahead.

He took the oath on his personal Bible, surrounded by his wife and three young children.

City Councilors Rick Kiley, Christine Erickson and newcomers, Curt Soehl and Janet Brekke, were also sworn in.

TenHaken replaces Mike Huether, who spent eight coloful years in the mayor's seat. After TenHaken was sworn in and just before he took his official seat at the council dais, Huether gave him a big hug and then quietly walked out the back door.

It's TenHaken's turn now.
